Happened So Fast

Lydia sitting on a jar of pasta sauce. And why-ever not?
Hello folks. Still working my way through the pictures from last summer.

Good ol' July never disappoints.

Our town does its Independence Day parade and fireworks on the third of July - which is confusing, but also nice because it makes the holiday last two days instead of one. I didn't get any pictures of it this year, but after the holiday was over we were surprised to see this picture in the local newspaper:

That's what happens when you have a cute kid. She even makes up for Jacob's weird expression.

The next day we went to a different town and rode a float in their parade.

The kids loved it - and loved playing with their friends before the parade started - but it was hot as **** and I will not make that mistake again. Next year we will politely decline.

Thomas' face - yes. It was so painfully hot.
Also, Lydia fell asleep on Jacob's head while they were marching in the parade.

That evening Jacob flew to Utah. His grandpa unexpectedly passed away a few days before and Jacob left to attend the funeral. Here's a gorgeous photo he took from the plane window:

Summer life continued on for us while he was away. We worked in the garden and celebrated Cow Appreciation Day at Chick-fil-A without him.

We stayed cool however we could.

Lots of good programs at the library during the summer. We attend at least once a week.

And we ate cherries!

In May we pulled out the bushes in front of our house and planted yellow rose bushes in their place. In July, the first rose bloomed. We were shocked! We assumed we wouldn't get any blooms the first year, but we had lots of flowers all through the summer and fall.

We packed a picnic and visited a local lake.

Tom was a good helper.

And at the very end of July we left for Utah, but that will have to be another post.
